Latest News: Ex-NNPC Boss Allegedly Runs Away From Nigeria As EFCC Hunts Him Over $1.6bn Diezani’s Deals

A former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has allegedly run out as EFCC intensifies its fight on corruption.
The former DG of NNPC who was linked to an alleged $1.6 billion money laundering and oil deals involving former Petroleum Resources Minister Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke is nowhere to be found in Nigeria.

According to The Nation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is currently looking for him for interrogation over the matter.

The man is believed to have sneaked out of the country since he could not be located in all his Nigerian addresses.

Also, 50 workers of the corporation are undergoing internal probe for an alleged N15billion retail outlets fraud.

NNPC management has sought legal advice on whether to hand them over to the EFCC.

The Nation reports that the EFCC has sought NNPC’s help in locating the former GMD for interaction on some aspects of the ongoing probe of Mrs Alison-Madueke.

But, in its response to EFCC’s letter, NNPC said it could not locate its former helmsman.

It was learnt that the former GMD might have gone abroad to rest.

A top source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The former GMD is needed to assist the EFCC in respect of some transactions relating to the tenure of the ex-Minister of Petroleum Resources.

“The NNPC has not been able to locate its former boss who might have gone abroad. His address overseas was yet to be located.

“We are hopeful that the ex-GMD will be honourable enough to make himself available for interaction with our team of investigators.
“Alternatively, we will look for him wherever he is.”

Apart from alleged money laundering of about $1.6billion with some businessmen, the ex-Minister is under probe also for a $115million poll bribery scam and for allegedly owning a property in Abuja worth $18 million.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom on October 2, 2015 quizzed Mrs. Alison-Madueke in London for alleged bribery and corruption.

Apart from restricting her movement to London (a Westminster Magistrate’s Court) on Marylebone Road approved the seizure of $41,000 (£27,000) cash from her.

Although she might face trial in the UK, no date has been fixed for her arraignment.

Among the 50 Retail Services Unit officials facing internal investigation are in the unit who have been recalled by NNPC. The others are two hitherto sacked workers and 46 others.

It was learnt that preliminary findings have established that all the 50 workers have a case to answer on the diverted N15billion.

But the management of NNPC is yet to decide on whether to hand them over to the EFCC or subject the fraud to internal disciplinary measures.

It was gathered that a Group General Manager (GGM) has recommended that all those involved should be taken to EFCC for a thorough investigation.

As at press time, the NNPC management was seeking legal advice on how to resolve the case.

A reliable source said: “The N15billion fraud was committed in NNPC retail outlets nationwide and about 50 staff have been implicated so far.

“Going by the NNPC Act, we have to exhaust internal mechanism of investigating the N15billion fraud before inviting EFCC or any anti-graft agency.

“Since we have our checks and audit control unit, we must have gone far in our auditing process in order to be able to hand over our findings to EFCC. All those involved are presently going through internal investigative procedures. We have even recalled two former Managing Directors of the Retail Services Unit who have retired.

“We are also seeking legal advice on how to manage the detection of the N15billion fraud.”

Latest NewsHow to Open a Domiciliary (Foreign) Account With GTBank, Zenith Bank & Firstbank in Nigeria

Now that we have more people into online business, the best time to talk about Domiciliary account opening is now. Because in one way or the other, you will always want to transact business that involves foreign currency.

I do receive foreign currency from my clients abroad, but not into my Naira account. If you have been receiving foreign currency into your Naira account, then you are being cheated because bank rate is not the same as black market rate. As at today 02/08/2016, dollar exchange rate from black market is 381 while inter-bank exchange rate is pegged at 320. You see the difference?

What is Domiciliary Account?
Domiciliary account is a bank account in Nigeria that is operated in foreign currency. The account allows you save money in US Dollars, Pounds Sterling or Euro with your money valued at the prevailing exchange rate. This account is funded through bank deposits, traveller’s cheques, cash inflows and lodgement of foreign currency cheques.

Note that you cannot transfer money from a naira account to a dollar account. But you can easily transfer money from DOM account to another DOM account

So if you are a serious online business entrepreneur, and you don’t have a DOM account, then you should consider opening one for yourself. This is why I don’t too border about PayPal not receiving money because I use my DOM account to receive money from online stores abroad.

How to Open a Domiciliary Account in Nigeria
Many banks offers this services but I’m going to focus mainly on three (3) banks. GTB, Zenith and First bank.

How to Open a Domiciliary Account With GTBank Nigeria

4. Utility Bill: Photocopy of your Utility bill issued in not more than 3 Months

Once you have the above completely in place,
>>Visit any GTB branch closest to you and walk straight to their customer service department.

>>Request for Dom account opening process and you’ll be guided through on what to do.

6. A copy of a Public Utility Receipt (not older than 3 months)
7. Initial Deposit.

8. Two (02) References.

9. Make sure you have an active account with the bank operating in not less than 6months.

Once you have the above in place, walk in to any Zenith bank and request for Domiciliary account opening. You’ll be guided on what next to do.

First Bank Domiciliary Account Opening

2. Valid means of Identification: e.g International passport, National ID or Drivers lincence.

3. Two (2) independent and satisfactory references (For Checking account only)

4. Two (2) recent passport photographs are required
5. Utility Bill, to verify your address
6. Resident permit (for non Nigerians)

Once you have all the above in place,
>>Visit any Firstbank of Nigeria closest to you
>>Head straight to their customer service desk and request that you want to open a domiciliary account with them.

>>You might be asked if you already have current or saving account with them before. If you don’t, they will open one (current or saving) alongside with the domiciliary account.

>>After that, you will be given a foreign currency account opening form, and specimen signature card to complete and sign.

>>You can decide to take all the forms home , fill them properly and return back with them to submit.

>>After they must have gone through the forms and make necessary corrections, you will be asked to go home.

>>Within 48-72hours, you will receive an SMS indicating that your domiciliary account has been open with your account.

>>Go back to the bank and pay in the minimum deposit to activate the account.

It is as simple as that. Receiving money in dollars, Euro and Pounds is very important if you are a blogger, online entrepreneur, PR or a freelancer.

Feel free to share your own experience with other banks which are not mentioned here.

Latest News: Nigeria to resume payments to oil militants in Niger Delta

The oi-rich Niger Delta has been badly affected by instability
Nigeria's government is to resume cash payments to militants in the oil-rich Niger Delta, officials have said.
The move is seen as an attempt to curb new attacks which have severely affected oil production in Nigeria.
The government stopped the payments in February, resulting in militants accusing it of breaching an amnesty deal negotiated in 2009.
The military has carried out several air strikes in the region in an attempt to destroy militant bases.
Africa Live: More on this and other stories
Avengers cripple oil sector
The Niger Delta Avengers: Nigeria's newest militants
The amnesty programme's spokesman Piriye Kiyaramo initially said the payments, which include tuition for those studying abroad, had been made on Monday, but militants contacted by the BBC said they had yet to receive the money.
Mr Kiyaramo later told the BBC that a "hiccup" meant to money would be paid by Tuesday night.
"We expect the amnesty to be paid tonight to 30,000 youths involved in the amnesty programme. The Central Bank has released the money," he said.
Under the amnesty deal, each militant is entitled to 65,000 naira ($203; £153) a month and job training.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who came to power last year, announced plans in this year's budget to reduce funding for the programme by 70% amid allegations of widespread corruption.
There have been many catastrophic oil spills in the Niger Delta over the years
At the same time, a new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), stepped up attacks on oil plants and pipelines, causing a sharp fall in oil production and worsening the financial crisis in Africa's most populous state.
Oil is the Nigerian government's main source of income.
Critics accuse Mr Buhari, a Muslim northerner, of unfairly targeting communities in the southern, mainly Christian oil-producing regions, as part of his anti-corruption drive. He denies the allegation.
Mr Buhari's predecessor Goodluck Jonathan comes from the Niger Delta region.
Militants say they are fighting so local people can benefit more from their region's natural resources.
Oil spills have also resulted in environmental devastation over the years.

Latest news on Transfer window: Premier League clubs spend £475m in first month

N'Golo Kante swapped Leicester for Chelsea in a £30m move
Premier League clubs have spent £475m in the month since the summer transfer window opened on 1 July, according to business analysts Deloitte.

The figure compares with £515m at the same stage in 2015 and an £870m outlay in the whole of the 2015 summer window.

Leroy Sane's £37m move to Manchester City, confirmed on 2 August, is not included in the figures.

Deloitte says gross outlay could rise above £1bn for the first time before the window closes on 31 August.

Manchester United could bump up the spending significantly if their reported £100m move for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba goes through.

The Premier League starts a new £5.1bn three-year television deal this season.

"The prospect of increased revenue from the new broadcast deals next season has encouraged Premier League clubs to invest in this window in order to be as competitive as possible," said Alex Thorpe, senior manager in the sports business group at Deloitte.

"With a month of the window still to go, some significant deals in the pipeline and a number of clubs yet to enter the market, we may see another summer of record Premier League spending, possibly breaking the £1bn barrier for the first time."

Sky are paying £4.2bn and BT £960m for the rights to show live top-flight matches over the next three seasons and, as a result of the deal, each club can expect to receive between £30m and £50m from the Premier League for 2016-17.

The combined total spent by Premier League clubs over the summer and winter transfer windows last season was £1.045bn - up from £965m for 2014-15.

What have been the biggest deals?
Liverpool spent £25m to sign midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from Championship side Newcastle
BBC Sport estimated that £300m had been spent in the first week of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United bringing in attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund and defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal for a combined £56m.

Manchester City had signed Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Celta Vigo winger Nolito for about £33.8m, while Liverpool spent an estimated £34m on Southampton forward Sadio Mane.

Since then, there has been little let-up in spending as Chelsea paid Premier League champions Leicester City £30m for midfielder N'Golo Kante.

Liverpool have also been busy, drafting in midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle for £25m, while the Reds have sold winger Jordon Ibe to Bournemouth for £15m and midfielder Joe Allen to Stoke for £13m.

Tottenham's £11m signing of Victor Wanyama from Southampton was confirmed when the window opened on 1 July and they have also added to their ranks with the £17m arrival of striker Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar.

What are the big deals we're waiting for?
Will Everton defender John Stones be playing in a different shade of blue next season?
France international Pogba's potential return to Old Trafford - the 23-year-old left the Premier League club when his contract expired in 2012 - could break the world transfer record of £85.3m that Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale in September 2013.

Arsenal have had a bid of 35m euros (£29.3m) for France forward Alexandre Lacazette rejected by Lyon and the Gunners will have to increase their bid if they want to sign the 25-year-old.

Chelsea reportedly want to buy back striker Romelu Lukaku, 23, from Everton - expected to cost the Stamford Bridge club £60m-£75m.

Everton could also lose England centre-back John Stones, with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirming his interest in the 22-year-old, thought to be valued at £50m by his current club.

Stoke have been heavily linked with a £20m move for West Brom's 22-year-old forward Saido Berahino, while there are plenty of other top-flight clubs chasing new signings.

Leroy Sane: Germany midfielder joins Man City in £37m deal

Leroy Sane helped Germany reach the semi-finals at Euro 2016
Germany midfielder Leroy Sane has completed his move to Manchester City for a fee of £37m plus add-ons.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract after leaving Schalke.

City manager Pep Guardiola said: "He is a special talent and an exciting player that I think our supporters will enjoy watching."

Sane, who helped Germany reach the semi-finals at Euro 2016, scored eight goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances last season as Schalke finished fifth.

"He has great technical ability, is comfortable on the ball and there is much to admire about the way he plays football," Guardiola added.

"He is fast, enjoys creating chances for others, works hard for the team and scores goals too. He also has a very positive attitude and will fit in well.

"At 20, he is still developing as a player but he is already a member of the German national side and I think he will be a fantastic asset to our club."

Listen: Sane could have been 'another Usain Bolt'
Sane said one of the reasons for joining City was to work with Guardiola.

"I think he can make me a more complete player," said Sane.

"I think I will need a bit of time to start with because it's another league and there's a different style of play, but I think I can adapt very quickly."

Very interestingDutch man waits 10 days in Chinese airport for online girlfriend

41-year-old Alexander Pieter Cirk flew to Hunan Province's Changsha Huanghua International Airport from Holland in the hopes of meeting his 26-year-old love interest
You might expect love to hurt, but for one lovesick Dutch man in China it resulted in a hospital trip for exhaustion.
Alexander Pieter Cirk, 41, recently flew from Holland to Hunan province in the hope of meeting his online girlfriend, a Chinese woman known only as Zhang.
But he ended up spending 10 days waiting at Changsha airport, after she failed to show up. And he has won little sympathy in China.

Ms Zhang later told local media that she "thought it was a joke"
Mr Cirk told Chinese media that he met Ms Zhang, 26, in an app two months ago and romance blossomed.
He decided to fly to visit her, but when he got to Hunan found no-one had come to meet him.
He refused to leave the airport for the next 10 days, and was eventually taken to hospital suffering physical exhaustion, according to reports by Hunan TV.
Ms Zhang contacted the TV channel a day after the report aired to give her side, saying that she had thought it had all been a joke.
"We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me," Ms Zhang told Hunan TV.
"One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly and I thought it was a joke. He didn't contact me later."
Ms Zhang also added that by the time Mr Cirk arrived at the airport, she was away having plastic surgery in another province and had turned off her phone.
'Doesn't he know that everything in China is fake?'
Mr Cirk was later hospitalised for physical exhaustion
On Chinese social media, the majority of users were keen to point out the apparent absurdity of the man's actions.
The hashtag "Foreign man went to Changsha to meet his online girlfriend" has been trending on micro-blogging site Weibo.
"He must be stupid, why would anyone do this?" asked one user.
"Doesn't he know that everything in China is fake?" said another.
"Perhaps she did go to the airport, saw what he looked like, and promptly turned back around," was a theory proposed by another user.

"A foreigner taking off his shoes at the airport and sleeping on a sofa! How ill-mannered!" says the comment in the middle who tried to make light of the situation
Others, however, had some sympathy.
"Here's a guy taking a relationship seriously, don't play around with his feelings," the netizen said. "If you don't want him anymore, tell him so he can go home."
"What does this say about Chinese integrity?", asked another.
Mr Cirk was scheduled to fly home earlier this week.
Ms Zhang reportedly said she would be keen to meet him after her recovery, saying she was still interested in maintaining their relationship.
